Belarus and Russia must actively seek new points of contact in regional cooperation. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, today at a meeting with the Governor of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation, Yuri Berg, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that the current visit of the Orenburg region delegation will give another impetus to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation. The President of Belarus noted that in 2013, a solid result was achieved in trade: the turnover between Belarus and this Russian region exceeded $1 billion. However, in 2014, it halved. In the opinion of the head of the Belarusian state, this situation requires prompt measures to restore the positive dynamics of bilateral relations.
"I believe that in the current challenging conditions, the active search for new points of contact within regional cooperation is an important component of Belarusian-Russian cooperation as a whole," said Alexander Lukashenko.
Belarus supplies various machinery and equipment to the Orenburg region, importing goods necessary for the operation of enterprises. Two assembly plants for Belarusian machinery have been established in the Orenburg region – for harvesters of the Gomselmash production association and MTZ tractors. Alexander Lukashenko believes that the parties should not limit themselves to these projects, but should work out new cooperation options, and more actively use the production, scientific, technological, and personnel potential of the parties.
The President emphasized that Belarus is ready to provide its partners with the full range of manufactured equipment. "I am confident that during your visit to machine-building enterprises, you will be convinced that this equipment can be purchased," said the head of the Belarusian state.
According to the President, one of the most important points of contact is cooperation in the agricultural sector. This sector is intensively developing both in Belarus and in the Orenburg region.
Furthermore, Alexander Lukashenko believes that cooperation in the construction and scientific-technical spheres is promising. "You can count on Belarusian machinery, equipment, technologies, design and engineering services, and construction materials for everything you need," the President emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko stated Belarus's readiness to respond as promptly as possible to all remarks and proposals from partners and expressed confidence that the governor's visit would result in concrete agreements that would significantly expand cooperation with the Orenburg region.
