A strong economy is the key to stability in Belarusian society. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on the functioning of the economy under sanctions and measures to overcome them, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Today we are having an interim meeting of the government. Based on the year-end results, we need to schedule a government meeting in the same format, chaired by the President, to fully review how we performed. There is only one task - to perform no worse than last year. We must endure, even if it means dying," the Head of State emphasized. "If we don't want to fight (everyone has children), if you don't want our children to defend their sovereignty and independence with rifles, we must have a strong economy. That is stability in our society."
Alexander Lukashenko noted that everything starts with small and insignificant conflicts: "Someone is poorer, and someone is richer. They look askance at each other, then start envying each other, as we are so good at doing, especially in Belarus. Then they grab a rifle, a gun, and start attacking each other."
In the President's opinion, as soon as stability is disrupted in Belarusian society, the country will immediately be "helped." "We will be set ablaze quickly. Completely. And it will be worse than in Ukraine. I feel this in my gut. The situation is very serious, the circumstances are very serious," he pointed out. "We are fed, watered, clothed, as they say in the vernacular; everything is available for now. But it will collapse in an instant if we relax."
"Therefore, the economy is issue number one. If we have an economy, everything will work out for us," Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.
