President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko emphasizes the importance of ecology to ensure good living and health conditions for people. Therefore, a campaign has been launched in the country to expand the use of electricity in various sectors, including transport and space heating. The Head of State announced this today while communicating in Minsk with representatives of the work collective of Horizon Holding, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

The Head of State was asked about the issues of converting the housing stock to electric heating. The fact is that Horizon has mastered the production of affordable and competitive electric water heaters.

Alexander Lukashenko said that work is already underway in this direction in the country, and new houses with electric heating and electric stoves are being built. "We are fully switching to electricity. And you see that we are already starting to produce our own electric vehicles. Not just buying them. We are actively encouraging it," the President noted.

In addition, electric buses are already actively used in urban transport.

"In my address (New Year's address. - BELTA Editor's Note), I mentioned electric vehicles, but the main message was that God has probably punished us with coronavirus for our boorish attitude towards nature. If we do not have harmony with nature, we will be unhealthy, and our children will be destitute," said Alexander Lukashenko.

He noted that a number of European countries have already set deadlines for when internal combustion engine vehicles should disappear from the streets. "We have a chance to do it sooner, and we will do it," the Belarusian leader is confident.

The President explained that, among other things, the electricity from the Belarusian NPP will be used for these purposes. The plant will also allow significant savings on the purchase of imported natural gas.
