President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku, BELTA reports. The Head of State arrived on a working visit to the capital of Azerbaijan to participate in the Global Climate Action Summit.
The Presidents noted the intensity of recent meetings. First and foremost, it is worth recalling the state visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Azerbaijan in May of this year. At that time, the heads of state held productive negotiations with a focus on trade and economic cooperation. Twelve areas were developed, which are intended to advance the relations between the two countries to a higher level, both immediately and in the future.
"We agreed on many things. I think we have everything necessary to move forward on this path. Just recently, we reviewed all the issues that we raised with you. They are very relevant to us. I think if our ministries and the ambassador get moving, we can do a lot for the benefit of both Belarus and Azerbaijan," said Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting in Baku.
The Presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan also had the opportunity to discuss various important issues in Moscow and Kazan this autumn, where they participated in the CIS and BRICS summits.
The Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan, Andrei Ravkov, told journalists that since the state visit in May, active work has been underway on all reached agreements: "There are very serious developments in some areas, while others are still under consideration. Nevertheless, there is good progress in all 12 areas, and there will be a good result," he is confident.
Now the heads of state have the opportunity to synchronise their efforts on issues of developing cooperation.
Andrei Ravkov also noted that a goal was previously set to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $1 billion within the next two years. It is expected that in trade in goods and services, the parties will confidently exceed the $500 million mark by the end of the current year, which is significantly higher than last year's volumes.
