Patriotism is dedicating oneself entirely to one's mission, living and working for the good of one's native country and people. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, today at the ceremony of awarding the "For Spiritual Revival" prize, special prizes to figures of culture and art, and the "Belarusian Sports Olympus" prize, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

The Head of State called this evening amazing. "We have already entered the business rhythm of the new year, but we are still in the atmosphere of bright and kind New Year and Christmas holidays. In the atmosphere that inspired us many years ago to create the unique 'For Spiritual Revival' prize," the President noted.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the awarding ceremony for this prize is one of the main events of the year. It has firmly entered the lives of Belarusians as a modern tradition that connects the past and present of our native land, and fills the goals and aspirations of citizens with special meaning, the Head of State noted.

"Year after year, such meetings unite us in the best and most sincere feelings: pride in worthy people, gratitude for mercy and kindness, courage and heroism, reverence for the creativity and talent of our compatriots. We, Belarusians, are a people with beautiful souls. I think about this every time I study success stories and sign award documents. I think that the Metropolitan (Metropolitan Benjamin. - BELTA's note) and I think alike at this time. Behind every professional or personal achievement are primarily hardworking and honest people. People who dedicate themselves entirely to their mission, live and work for the good of their native country and people. This is patriotism," the President stated.

It is expressed, Alexander Lukashenko noted, in love for children and the selfless desire to surround with care those who have been deprived of maternal affection by fate, in selfless struggle for people's lives and health, in a careful attitude towards the cultural heritage of the nation, the original traditions and spiritual values of Belarusians. "In defending historical truth, the memory of our land's heroes, and the country's information sovereignty. In educating young Belarusians in love for their country and pride in their ancestors, in sports victories for the glory of Belarus," the Head of State added.
