Lukashenko: At the Supreme State Council, we will try to look further into how we will develop

At the upcoming meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, the parties will try to look further into how to develop cooperation between Belarus and Russia. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during bilateral negotiations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, at the Konstantinovsky Palace, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"Tomorrow is a day when we will formalise many of our actions within the framework of the Supreme State Council. I believe we will hold this Supreme State Council with dignity and at the highest level," said the Belarusian leader.

According to him, the agenda will also cover prospects: "We will discuss our union programmes, how they are being implemented. Quite successfully, we have done a lot. We are trying to look further ahead, how we will develop. Thank you very much for everything that has been done."

Alexander Lukashenko noted that in the past, when Belarus and Russia "were not pressured so much," such days for holding the Supreme State Council and bilateral negotiations were always filled with discussions of issues that needed to be resolved at the government level. "Today, these are resolved by the governments. And refining the agenda is our sacred duty. I am very pleased and satisfied with our meeting. I am always ready to come to any place in Russia. There is something to see, something to talk about," the head of state noted.

Alexander Lukashenko also mentioned joint events that took place on Sunday before the negotiations at the Konstantinovsky Palace. One of them was an event held via video conference to commission a new wintering complex at Vostok Station in Antarctica.

"Regarding Antarctica, it was right that no one divided anything in the Soviet Union; we worked together. And I am very glad. As you are, I think, among other things. We are glad that we have not parted ways. We are doing a common cause. And I thought: what country could provide such opportunities to a country like Belarus! After all, in essence, we see no problems with Russia. Russia has a lot. - 'Please, come, work, let's do it together, take, earn, act.' No country could treat us the way you treat Belarus," the head of state emphasised.

"Again, I am projecting: what prevented Ukraine, the Baltic countries from working with us like this? This is our world, we built it for several decades, we won this terrible war together. Well, let's move in this direction! No, they don't want to - they are looking for a better life overseas," added Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The heads of state in Saint Petersburg also visited the recently built "SKA Arena" - the world's largest hockey stadium by the number of spectator seats. "This is truly a palace for the development of sports. Moreover, various kinds. Cultural and sports. Any events can be held there. It is made very solidly," shared the President of Belarus. "And we met with the guys (players of the SKA team. - BELTA's note), and with Belarusians who work and play here. And Russians, whom I only saw on the ice. Open, decent people. This is also very important. I think we will find a moment in our schedule to watch a game at this wonderful stadium."
