On April 4, during a meeting on providing support to physical culture and sports organizations, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko named the main formula for interaction between the state and athletes, a BELTA correspondent reports.
"The approach is immutable: you deliver results – you get money, and above all, a decent salary. No results – no money. That's the main formula. Understand me as you wish," Alexander Lukashenko stated.
At the same time, the head of state noted that he had always warned about such an approach. "This is exactly how we will act. We need results, gentlemen. Without results, there will be no benefit," the President emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko adheres to the same principle in other areas. "It cannot be that I am skinning the government, the new prime minister: give me the economy. Or the head of the Administration: ensure organization, and so on. Or the social sphere with the Deputy Prime Minister. And you will be relaxing. That doesn't happen. Therefore, there is one criterion. If there are results in the economy – the government, the National Bank are working well. If there are results in sports – that's good," said the Belarusian leader.
At the same time, the head of state drew attention to the fact that one should not forget about training reserves. This needs to be thought about today.
The President inquired about what has been done to establish order, primarily in team sports, and what else needs to be done, how his instructions are being fulfilled, and how state money allocated to clubs and federations is being controlled.
"I want to warn you, gentlemen. It is not a problem today to see where this money goes. And we will see. But I want to say man-to-man that you should support your relatives, loved ones, mistresses, and others with your own money. With your own money. Earn it wherever you want, and support them. This will be humane and man-to-man correct. I think you will draw appropriate conclusions from what I have said," emphasized Alexander Lukashenko. "How fairly and, most importantly, how economically clubs manage funds, or simply stupidly spend them, or waste them? For what purposes are finances directed? I want to emphasize in particular: we will hold the Ministry of Sports accountable for sports facilities that cost billions of rubles."
