The activities of the National Academy of Sciences have not yet yielded the expected results, and there is no monetization of research and development. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on December 3 at a meeting with a working group to analyze the activities of the National Academy of Sciences, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The President drew attention to the fact that Belarus invests in domestic science, supports new scientific directions, and creates the most favorable conditions.
"Unfortunately, the Academy of Sciences has not become a driver of advanced scientific and technological development of the country at the current stage. We have a critically low number of breakthrough scientific achievements," the head of state stated. "We do not see the return from the academy's activities that we expected. There is no monetization of the research and development of the Academy of Sciences. And this is the main criterion for evaluating efficiency." Otherwise, as the President noted, the question arises whether the country needs the Academy of Sciences in its current form, or if it would be better to focus on sectoral and university science.
There is an opinion that science should be given more money. To this, the President reasonably remarked: "If there are results, no one will work for free. We will not be in debt."
