President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to this during a meeting on the activities of state bodies of the national security system, BelTA reports.
"Democracy is democracy, but there should be no lawlessness. And there won't be. You have seen in the United States, Western Europe, how super-democratic states (which, by the way, lectured us on democracy) treated protesters. The main task of the state bodies of the national security system is to maintain stability in the country, ensure legality and law and order. That is what the Constitution and the law require of you," Alexander Lukashenko said.
According to the head of state, many issues have been submitted for discussion at the meeting, but the main attention will be paid to the conduct of the election campaign and the presidential elections in Belarus. "This election campaign started just three weeks ago, but already today we see that not all candidates for candidates intend to go through this path in a civilized manner. There are violations of legislation everywhere, moreover, of ethical norms, insults, attacks on the authorities. There are also those who believe that all means are good to achieve the goal," Alexander Lukashenko noted. "That they use exclusively populist slogans and unsubstantiated promises in the struggle for the sympathy of the population – let the people themselves sort it out. They will analyze, draw appropriate conclusions. The people will figure it out."
The President drew attention to the inadmissibility of turning the collection of signatures into unsanctioned rallies and mass events in violation of all conceivable and inconceivable laws and moral norms. "Violations of the law cannot be allowed: then we will have to pay dearly for it. You know how a similar situation developed in Ukraine. Therefore, the law and the law again. It must be observed impeccably," the head of state emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko demanded that accountability be enforced for acts of aggression against law enforcement officials. According to him, threats are not only directed at uniformed personnel. "Threats are pouring in from all sides today: against civil servants, heads of precinct commissions that conducted the parliamentary elections, and against their families. Threats from all sides. What is this? I ask law enforcement agencies, especially the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, to pay the most serious attention to this. If there are threats, it is a criminal offense punishable under criminal law," the President emphasized.
He noted that all events are unfolding according to a pre-planned scenario, with their participants merely acting as executors who have masters with money. "First, representatives of several initiative groups abuse the right to hold pickets to destabilize the situation and disrupt the socio-political environment, then they will form teams and groups of militants who, it is not excluded, will want to organize a brawl in the square. This is what they are calling people to do. What is there to be surprised about? Why is everyone so surprised: 'how will Lukashenka respond'? The answer will be one, as you perfectly understand," the head of state warned.
In Alexander Lukashenko's opinion, these are so-called modern election technologies, which are often not distinguished by their integrity. "We have been through this before. We did not allow a split in society then, and we will not allow it now. And today we intend to take adequate measures to preserve peace and stability in our state," the Belarusian leader stressed. "For this, it is necessary to clearly understand what lengths some aspiring candidates are prepared to go to achieve their goals. What resources they will deploy to increase their ratings. Will this not create additional threats?"
The President asked the meeting participants how they assess the developing situation and what proposals they have for strengthening stability "taking into account the possibility of an escalation of the situation at any stage of the electoral process". "Our people should not be overly stressed or worried. We must ensure that every person has the opportunity to walk peacefully on their land, and that parents, as it has always been in all our cities, can calmly not just walk on the land, but with small children by the hand at any time of day, and be proud of their country. The country must be calm, regardless of any acute situations. This is the main thing that distinguishes us from others. This is the essence of our island of security. And we must preserve this, whatever it may cost us," Alexander Lukashenko summarized.
