There have been no discussions, and there are no discussions today, nor can there be any, about Russia or Belarus ceding their sovereignty. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on January 12 at a meeting on the implementation of the Union State integration programmes, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"I warn you, there have been no discussions, and there are no discussions today, nor can there be any, about Russia or Belarus ceding their sovereignty. There is simply no need (for this. - BELTA note)," Alexander Lukashenko stressed. "We have not yet exhausted the format in which we cooperate with Russia."
The President noted that if the parties see in the future that something is lacking and additional decisions need to be made in terms of integration and convergence of the states' economies, then relevant issues will be discussed.
According to the head of state, this is the main reason why he convened a large group of responsible officials for a meeting. "So that you do not think that some issues are being resolved behind your backs, and you are not even aware of them. No, this process is open, honest, and principled. Moreover, time is pushing us towards such a resolution of these problems," the President said.
