President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent a message on the occasion of the opening of the monument "Living Memory of Grateful Generations" in Brest. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The Head of State noted that on July 28, the second of the planned trilogy of obelisks in Minsk, the Brest Fortress, and Moscow was solemnly opened – the nationwide monument "Living Memory of Grateful Generations".
"The memory of the Great Patriotic War has no statute of limitations. It lives in our hearts, teaches us to value freedom and peace, unites millions of people who proudly call themselves heirs of the victors, and lives on despite unprecedented attempts to erase historical truth. It has long become part of the national idea of Belarusians," the message reads.
Now this memory is embodied in the symbolic image of the tree of life, the crown of which, breaking through metal, symbolizes peoples standing firmly on their native land, striving for peace and creation. "Our roots are ancient. As long as we remember our origins and honor the achievements of our predecessors, they will nourish us with strength," the President pointed out.
Alexander Lukashenko expressed gratitude to representatives of more than half a million families from Belarus, Russia, and countries near and far abroad – all who responded to the initiative of the Belarusian charitable foundation to perpetuate the endless gratitude to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
"Everything we do together to preserve our common historical memory, we do for the sake of a peaceful future on Earth. Eighty years ago, we also stood together and won. And we will do everything to protect the clear sky over our Motherland," the Head of State emphasized.
