"One of the unwavering priorities of the foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus today is the development of ties within our association. We have outlined the most pressing tasks for the Commonwealth in the programme documents of the Belarusian presidency, and we are also promoting them within the EAEU format. Many of them have already been implemented within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. It is evident that the main focus of the CIS governments and its working bodies should be on developing a common economic space," the Head of State stated.
"I will say openly and directly: if we do not resolve this in the near future, there will be no point in talking about the existence of an effective Commonwealth of Independent States. I would even say – not even the EAEU. The time has come, having finally put all the 'i's' in the 't's', to make a decision on forming a true foundation for the relationships between our states. The foundation is the economy," emphasized the Belarusian leader.
According to him, an essential condition for the successful development of economic integration should be the improvement of the Commonwealth's documents and their harmonisation with the regulatory framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. "And then to move forward very effectively," added Alexander Lukashenko.
