President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated the people of Romania on their National Day. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The Head of State noted that this holiday is a true symbol of the long-cherished dream of the Romanians for unity, embodying an important historical event on the path of formation of a modern country. On this occasion, the Belarusian leader recalled the fair words of the classic of Romanian literature, Mihai Eminescu, who believed that "the secret of a state's long life lies in preserving the hierarchy of its merits".
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, and it was Romania that was among the first to recognize the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko pointed out.
"However, the chronicle of our partnership ties began much earlier. For a long time, mutually beneficial contacts contributed to the development of trade and agriculture, science and education, culture and sports for the benefit of Belarusians and Romanians," the congratulatory message reads. "I am convinced that in the context of growing tensions in the European region, strengthening economic and humanitarian cooperation will allow us not only to preserve the traditions of friendship and trust, but also to safeguard our national identity and distinctiveness."
Alexander Lukashenko expressed hope that Belarus and Romania will soon be able to overcome the unfavorable political conjuncture and resume a full-fledged dialogue based on the principles of respect and support.
The President wished the entire Romanian people a peaceful sky, stability, and confidence in the future.
