President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has pledged to consider a proposal to name a street in Minsk in honour of the Soviet commander and statesman, Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Bagramyan, who participated in the liberation of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, in the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Regarding the great Bagramyan, we need to consider this issue in the near future. He is a great man for us. For Belarusians, certainly," the President emphasized.
The relevant proposal was submitted by the chairman of the public association "Minsk City Armenian Cultural and Educational Society 'Hayastan'", Georgy Egiazaryan. During the Great Patriotic War, 4 fronts participated in Operation Bagration to liberate Belarus, including the 1st Baltic Front led by Ivan Bagramyan.
He stressed that in Belarus, people are judged not by their nationality or religious beliefs, but solely on the basis of their professional and, most importantly, human qualities.
Georgy Egiazaryan also expressed gratitude for the state's attention to the issues of developing cultures of various national communities, and maintaining peace and harmony.
