President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has pledged to do everything possible to preserve the village, without which the state itself will not exist. He made this statement on Christmas Day, while visiting the Church of St. John the Baptist near Minsk, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Here in this rural church, I want to say a few words about the village. You see that during these challenging times, we are doing a lot to preserve the village," the President said.
He emphasised that states which have destroyed their villages have no future. "If we lose the village, we lose the state. It simply won't exist. Therefore, I promise you that as a person who grew up in a village, who knows the life of a rural person, the complexities and difficulties, I will do everything to preserve our village. So that the village – which today is the breadwinner of our people, the foundation of our state – remains strong, powerful, and prosperous," Alexander Lukashenko assured.
"This does not mean that we will forget the cities – they represent industry. Without industry, the village cannot develop either. We will do everything to develop our economy. We have everything for this, despite the difficult times," the Belarusian leader stressed.
