President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has pledged to increase support for rural housing construction. He announced this on October 4 during a visit to OJSC "Parokhonkoye" in Pinsk District, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"We will further strengthen support for the countryside. We will strengthen it in terms of housing," said the head of state. "Housing needs to be built where it is needed for production, where there is work for people."
According to the President, it is necessary to build rental housing for workers. This, along with decent wages, is intended to create conditions for attracting specialists. And the farm manager should be in charge of this housing. "You invite someone to work. You conclude a contract. If they leave, they must vacate the housing. We must build rental housing," he said.
However, this approach does not preclude the possibility of building private housing if people wish to do so. "If a person wants to build, we will provide land, plots. This should be encouraged when a person builds their own. But if you lack people and you need them, you can attract them through housing and wages. This is the priority," emphasized the Belarusian leader. This approach should be applied not only to agricultural workers but also to other sectors, without concentrating all labor resources in cities to the detriment of rural areas. "We must take this into account unequivocally. Otherwise, we gather people in Minsk and then wonder how to employ them, how to build schools, how to build kindergartens, and so on. We need to build where it is necessary (housing. - BELTA's note). This applies to education and housing. Everything needs to be brought into alignment," noted the President.
