President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has demanded that scheduled medical care not be cancelled. He announced this today at a meeting on the epidemiological situation and measures being taken to counter the spread of coronavirus infection, according to BELTA.

"A very important issue I wanted to draw attention to. Very recently, the Ministry of Health announced that scheduled check-ups had been suspended. So, Alexander Nikolaevich (Assistant to the President Alexander Kosinets. - BELTA's note), you are tasked as an assistant: together with the Ministry of Health, immediately prepare a plan of measures so that there is no cancellation of any scheduled check-ups. I know what this led to during the first wave," the Head of State instructed. "Therefore, you are the first, Pinevich is the second. Doctors and healthcare officials sitting here, go to the polyclinics and see people. Conduct medical examinations."

Alexander Lukashenko noted that if it concerns certain types of rehabilitation, for example, the need to exercise legs or arms, then in the current conditions, it might be worth doing this at home with the participation of relatives. "But where it is necessary to consult people and perform scheduled operations, even scheduled consultations, I want a plan on my desk. There should be no cancellation of scheduled procedures, operations, or consultations," the Head of State emphasised.

He positively assessed the fact that in Belarus, in the current situation, medical university students have been involved in providing assistance to the population. He also drew attention to the experience of Russia, where retired medical professionals were invited. "And in Russia, people responded. And we have many doctors on pension. They will not all return to clinics to help. And we don't need that right now. But make sure that scheduled check-ups and measures, which you cancelled yesterday, are reinstated," the President said.

"Alexander Nikolaevich, you are responsible for this with your head. People need more than just medical support. When they come to you, talk to you, they will already feel better. Mostly, these are old people. The decision has been made. Get it done. Report to me separately next week," Alexander Lukashenko summarized.
