President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, on behalf of the Belarusian people and himself, congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election as President of Brazil. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

"The sovereign people of Brazil have once again demonstrated a high level of trust in the course the state will follow under Your confident leadership. It was during Your previous term that I made my first and so far only visit to your wonderful country. Together with You, we outlined the main priorities for the development of Belarusian-Brazilian relations," the Belarusian leader noted.

Alexander Lukashenko expressed his conviction that today the leadership of both countries is capable, on the basis of mutual understanding and respect, to significantly intensify the political, trade-economic, and humanitarian ties between Minsk and Brasilia, and to expand cooperation in the international arena for the effective protection of the independence and national interests of the states, and for the establishment and maintenance of a just world order.

"To this end, I have the honour to renew my invitation to You to visit Belarus at a convenient time. We have much to discuss as old good friends, considering the changes that have occurred over the past twelve years," the congratulatory message reads.
