The Head of State, Aleksandr Lukashenko, congratulated the People's Writer of Belarus, Nikolai Cherginets, on his 85th birthday. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

"Your life is a vivid example of service to your people and Motherland. The difficult wartime years, work in law enforcement agencies, the fulfilment of an international duty in Afghanistan, direct participation in the creation of the Union of Belarus and Russia, and representation of our republic's interests in the UN are milestones of a great journey that have found reflection in your work," the congratulatory message reads.

The President noted that Nikolai Cherginets is one of the most popular contemporary Belarusian writers. More than fifty of his books have been translated into 18 foreign languages. Audiences highly appreciated the feature films created based on the writer's novels "Escape from Death," "Your Mission," and "Major Vetrov."

"Your civic stance and authority have made it possible to preserve and develop the public association "Union of Writers of Belarus," which you headed for over 15 years," the Head of State emphasised. "I am confident that in your future roles as Honorary Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus and Co-Chairman of the Union of Writers of the Union State, you will continue to work towards consolidating society based on patriotism, unity, and accord."
