Alexander Lukashenko noted that the Belarusian side views this first visit of the Arkhangelsk region leadership to Belarus as an important step in the development of comprehensive relations. "I am confident that together we will be able to enhance our cooperation, give an impetus to contacts at all levels of government, and open up broader opportunities for our producers," the President emphasized.
Belarus's foreign trade relations with the Arkhangelsk region are developing dynamically. By the end of 2014, mutual trade turnover increased by more than 15% compared to 2013, exceeding $200 million. Alexander Lukashenko noted that there is a certain imbalance, a negative balance not in favour of Belarus. "I think that as a result of this visit, we need to seriously consider how to balance our trade turnover," said the Belarusian leader.
According to the President, Belarus and the Arkhangelsk region have significant promising areas for cooperation. First and foremost, this could involve increasing the supply of Belarusian machinery. Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarusian construction companies can offer their services, as well as the most modern designs for buildings and structures. In addition, Belarus is ready to supply agricultural products and generally work towards strengthening the agricultural sector of the Arkhangelsk region. "In short, there are many areas that may be in demand by you. I am confident that the spheres of mutual interest are significantly broader," the President emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko expects that during the visit of the Arkhangelsk region delegation to Belarus, agreements will be reached, the implementation of which will increase the productivity of relations.
In turn, Igor Orlov confirmed the Arkhangelsk region's interest in developing comprehensive cooperation with Belarus.
