President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is participating in the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on July 4. The event is being held online, according to BelTA.

Currently, India holds the presidency of the SCO. It assumed the presidency for the first time in September 2022. The theme of the current meeting is "Towards a SECURE SCO". The acronym SECURE was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO summit in 2018 and stands for: Security, Economy and trade, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Environment. These themes have become the main agenda for the Indian presidency of the SCO.

During its presidency, India has also given impetus to areas such as "Digital Inclusion", "Youth Empowerment", and "Shared Buddhist Heritage".

Currently, Belarus is on the path to acquiring full membership status in the SCO. At the summit in Samarkand in September last year, a decision was made to initiate the relevant procedure. The Belarusian side expects to complete this within the shortest possible timeframe.
