President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko participated in the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation in Bishkek, BELTA correspondent reports.
The head of the Belarusian state arrived at the summit venue in the "Yntymak Ordo" administrative building, where he was welcomed by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov.
This building is a new architectural symbol of Kyrgyzstan. The name has a deep meaning. "Yntymak" means "peace, friendship and unity", and "Ordo" is a place and centre where strategically important decisions are made and implemented, determining the future of the country.
At the summit, the leaders of the countries summed up the CSTO's activities during the intersessional period and considered issues of international and regional security. In his speech, Alexander Lukashenko addressed topical issues of ensuring collective security in the Eurasian space and outlined areas that require special attention from partners.
Among the documents to be adopted were the final declaration of the Collective Security Council, and decisions concerning the current activities of the organisation and the strengthening of cooperation in countering illicit drug trafficking and illegal migration.
A decision was also made at the summit regarding the candidacy of the new Secretary General of the CSTO. The term of office of the current head of the secretariat, representative of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov, expires on December 31 this year. The next three-year term in this post will be held by the representative of Kyrgyzstan Taalatbek Masadykov, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO.
