"I see the readiness of the young generation to work productively and show initiative. And I welcome this. After all, you will have to master new technologies, develop production, the service sector, and bring Belarusian culture and science to leading positions in the world," said Alexander Lukashenko.
The President noted the symbolic significance of graduates beginning their careers as specialists in the first year of a new five-year plan, to which the country pins great hopes for dynamic development, and emphasized that the state is betting on youth. "Therefore, in the recently adopted program (for the socio-economic development of Belarus for 2016-2020. - BELTA's note), one of the state priorities is youth policy," the head of state noted.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, the state cares about the future of the youth and does everything it should, in particular, by providing the first job according to their specialty. "Not every state can afford this. And we have had very serious debates recently on how to proceed in this regard, due to the fact that we have entered a period of serious economic turbulence," the President explained. "There were suggestions to abandon this: let graduates determine their own lives. I am categorically against this. We have preserved the opportunity for all of you to find employment, to go to work, but the rest is up to you."
The President added that graduates are entering a new, very responsible stage of professional development. It will be a kind of test of what they have learned and how they will apply their knowledge in everyday practice. "It will no longer be academic grades in your record books that determine your authority, but real deeds and labor achievements in specific areas of independent work," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
The President also drew the graduates' attention to the fact that by obtaining higher education, they had taken their first step into a complex life. "The time we are living through is complex because, as we often say, a redistribution of the world has begun. A new world order is being established," Alexander Lukashenko said. "New states have emerged that aspire to take a leading position under this sun, but these positions are already occupied. Therefore, local conflicts are flaring up in some places. And the main thing today is to protect the country, to protect the world from a global war." The Belarusian leader assured that the state has always paid and will continue to pay special attention to defence and security issues. "If there is peace in the country, I am confident that we will not just live, but will solve our problems and achieve the goals we set for ourselves," the Head of State noted.
At the Republican Ball for Graduates of Higher Education Institutions, Alexander Lukashenko also presented state awards to teachers and heads of Belarusian higher education institutions for many years of fruitful work, excellent achievements in professional activities, and a significant personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists. A number of teachers and students were awarded the gratitude of the President of Belarus.
