President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called on the CIS and EAEU countries to stick together and not to go their separate ways, primarily by developing economic ties. The Head of State made this statement on September 30 at a meeting with heads of government delegations participating in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS, a BELTA correspondent reports.

The Belarusian leader emphasized that economics is the foundation of everything, and all other aspects can be built upon this foundation. "This is relevant for us now, no matter how much we boast," the President remarked. "The countries whose prime ministers are representing them (at this meeting. - BELTA's note) have different approaches to economic issues. I will put it simply, in down-to-earth terms: let's not lose what has been achieved by previous generations of our people. Let's preserve what we have – our economic relations, our economic foundation. And if we gradually add to it, taking something from other markets – that's good. But it is very difficult today."
The reason, he said, is that the world is currently undergoing a redistribution and a competitive struggle, a fight. "I would like us to withstand this struggle. And we can only withstand it together," Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
In this regard, the Head of State called on all CIS and EAEU countries to maintain and develop historically established ties. "Let's stick together now. Let's not run in different directions," the President said. "Nobody is waiting for us anywhere. We can be torn away from the common whole. History tells us about this: they tore us away and abandoned us. And who will need us then? Nobody. Therefore, the main thing is our unity, to preserve what has been achieved by previous generations, what we have."
Russia plays a central role in these processes, believes Alexander Lukashenko. "It must make the main contribution to glue together, unite, and prevent our unions from falling apart at this time," he noted. "It must play its role in this regard. And we must not just demonstrate, but move in this direction." Naturally, in these processes, it is necessary to take into account the specificities of different states, their sovereignty, the Belarusian leader emphasized. To build relationships based on existing realities and to prioritize each other's economic interests.
"The main thing is the economy. Let's support this economy at the highest level. Let's primarily see our countries in the implementation of certain programs, contracts, development directions of a particular state, supporting each other as much as we can. Justice and sincerity, equality of our relations must be laid at the foundation," Alexander Lukashenko concluded.
