"First of all, I want to emphasize (now they will start yapping that we are giving up sovereignty and independence, and so on): more than three years ago, back in Sochi, we set the governments the task of taking another step in our union building. Somehow everything got muddled, there were no bright breakthrough movements," noted Alexander Lukashenko. "Then, responding to the demands of the people, the President of Russia and I decided to take some steps."
The Head of State recalled that after that, more than 30 so-called roadmaps were developed by the governments. They concerned the development of cooperation in various areas. Over time, these roadmaps turned into union programmes, and 28 of them remained. "These will be signed agreements for implementation. Not just maps that someone will follow," explained the Belarusian leader.
It is planned to sign them at the presidential level at the Supreme State Council. Its meeting is intended to be held in October-November. "If we reach a final agreement with the President of Russia on the 9th (negotiations between the two leaders are scheduled for September 9th. - BELTA note), then on the 10th-11th the governments will gather, consider and adopt these programmes. And then we will approve them at the Supreme State Council," said Alexander Lukashenko.
