In his speech, the President touched upon the pandemic. According to him, while not denying the existence of relevant challenges, it is necessary to react calmly to the situation, which is sometimes artificially inflamed in the world. "I do not want to say that this (morbidity and related issues of treating people. - BELTA's note) does not exist. But there should be no psychosis," he stressed.
The Head of State noted that in Belarus, priority is given to treatment methods, provision of medicines, and all necessary supplies.
"The doctors are great, they learned to treat, they adapted quickly!" he said. "What is our peculiarity: our infectious disease specialists (these luminaries) treat people the least, I do not distract them for this. They come and teach doctors - pediatricians, surgeons, and others. They taught them and now control how they treat. This is the feat in healthcare! Something that no other country in the world does."
"This is mobilization. This is how the state should work. And if we want to survive, we must mobilize. Nobody will give us a peaceful life," stressed the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to how some countries react to protests by their citizens against lockdowns. "They close down, declare a lockdown, use tear gas, and no one reproaches them," he noted. "And why do they close down? Not to keep them safe. But because the healthcare system cannot cope with treating people. Well, you are rich: expand the beds, provide oxygen, medicines! Come, we will tell you how to treat, and it's no longer a secret. But it costs money, and not every private entity wants to do it. The rich are treated, those who can pay."
In this regard, the Head of State also recalled the tragic results of the pandemic among residents of nursing homes in some Western countries, while Belarus managed to build an effective system in this matter: "I called the Speaker of the House of Representatives and said: you are responsible for them with the deputies, go and develop a system and save them. And we are still taking care of these people using a shift-based method. And the situation there is not the most difficult. We saved these people. There (in the West. - BELTA's note), they gave up on them, there was no one to pay for them. Here you have private and public healthcare."
Despite the established public healthcare system, Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that people should also pay more attention to their own health and maintain regular physical activity.
