Strategic projects are the foundation for the further development of Belarus. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a meeting on improving the system of planning and controlling the implementation of strategic projects, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
According to the head of state, strategic projects can be implemented in various sectors. For example, to deepen existing technological processes in mechanical engineering and agriculture. "There is an opportunity and a need to deepen our work in each of these areas. The technologies are clear, the schools exist, and the personnel know which direction to move in," noted Aleksandr Lukashenko.
As one example, the President cited the construction of the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill. Initially, the plan was simply to build a pulp production plant and export it. However, this resulted in Belarus essentially selling a semi-finished product to other countries and then importing goods manufactured from it. Therefore, subsequently, by the order of the head of state, the production in Svetlogorsk was expanded so that the plant could produce products with higher added value, use them within the country, and export them to other markets.
"As far as I understand, we are finishing the construction of this workshop?" Aleksandr Lukashenko clarified with the Governor of the Gomel Region.
"Yes," confirmed Ivan Krupko.
"And no matter how difficult it may be, we are equipping it with technological equipment," added the President. "This is an indicator of one of the small strategic projects that has been implemented in about a year and a half to two years. We are implementing this project by deepening what we have today. And this is the foundation of our further development."
Another area is the creation of entirely new production facilities. Among such projects were the construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation.
"These are strategic projects that will elevate the country two or three steps higher than it is now. This is new. And we must move in this direction if we, boasting that we are so smart and advanced, want to prove it in practice. This is very profitable and necessary," stated the head of state.
