Representatives of the Belarusian youth active and the Head of State, Alexander Lukashenko, have planted the Alley of Generations on the grounds of the Palace of Independence, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The ceremony took place after the President's meeting with Belarusian youth and veterans of the Komsomol movement. This event held a special symbolism: the meeting occurred on the eve of the 105th anniversary of the Komsomol (All-Union Leninist Young Communist League) and on the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Palace of Independence.
Before participating with the Head of State in the planting of the symbolic Alley of Generations, the meeting participants noted that tree planting has become a good tradition in our country: family tree alleys and "Gardens of Hope" are being established, and forest weeks are held. Acknowledging the President's special attitude towards nature and labour, they inquired about the first tree planted by Alexander Lukashenko. As the Head of State recounted, he has planted so many trees that it is now difficult to recall the exact first sapling. Moreover, in the rural area where he was born and raised, it is the most common activity, not given much significance. As Head of State, Alexander Lukashenko also regularly participates in tree planting, including with his sons.
On the President's initiative, the territory surrounding the Palace of Independence has also been enhanced with greenery, and an apple orchard has been established. Many trees, some several decades old, were preserved during the construction of the palace, which was one of the strict requirements of the Head of State.
