Belarusian athletes are dependent on state support, and this is one of the reasons for failures in major sports, stated President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on the development of football and the sports industry as a whole, a BELTA correspondent reports.
Not only representatives of the football sphere were invited to the meeting, but also heads of other federations: hockey, cycling, shooting, swimming, athletics, fencing. The topics to be discussed at the meeting concern these sports as well, the head of state explained.
"The state invests colossal amounts of money in the development of all sports. All athletes today are mainly dependent on state support. This is probably one of the reasons why not everything is going well in major sports. Everything is too comfortable for everyone, there is no need to go anywhere, no need to ask anyone – the state will provide everything," Alexander Lukashenko noted. "I don't see any results yet, especially in football. And the same applies to hockey and other sports."
