President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has set the task to resolve problematic issues in the domestic animal husbandry sector in the coming years. He announced this at a ceremony for awarding scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers with Doctor of Sciences diplomas and Professor certificates, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The Head of State stated that the animal husbandry sector in Belarus lags somewhat behind the level of work of crop farmers. He noted that relevant problematic issues are to be resolved in the next year or two.
"They try to convince me that the issue is veterinary, or something else. Complete nonsense. The issue is our disorganisation. We have everything we need. Therefore, as I often say, organisation, discipline, and establishing a system are needed to preserve young livestock," said Alexander Lukashenko.
One of the ceremony participants is Anton Vlasov, Head of the Oat Laboratory at the Scientific and Practical Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture, who was awarded the Doctor of Agricultural Sciences degree for the creation of high-yielding and adaptive new-generation oat varieties.
The scientist elaborated on his long-term work. Oats are partially used in compound feeds, but are even more in demand in food products for the population, including athletes. Doctors, for example, recommend consuming oats to stabilise cholesterol levels and prevent diabetes. Recently, oats have even begun to be used in the production of a popular plant-based milk alternative.
Alexander Lukashenko also inquired about oat yield and sown areas from the scientist. Good yields of this crop were obtained based on last year's results. The main point the President emphasised was adherence to technology.
