Prices for imported goods must be affordable for Belarusian citizens. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting on pricing issues, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"We have managed to prevent empty shelves and restore the diversity of assortment by attracting new suppliers to the Belarusian market, mainly from our friendly countries Russia and Turkey. But this is no reason to rest on our laurels. Prices for imported goods must be affordable for our citizens, especially for items we do not produce ourselves," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that imports must also be under the strictest control. "Otherwise, they will overwhelm your entire domestic market," the President warned.
Another issue is the emergence of unequal conditions for domestic producers and importers, which promotes the sale of predominantly foreign products. "Importers have the opportunity to set prices outside the country that are favourable to them and make significant profits. Let's hear how fair this is and whether the government sees it," said Alexander Lukashenko. "I perfectly understand that any system of regulatory measures is a living organism that changes in accordance with internal and external factors. That is, not everything depends on us within the country. But I am not setting the task for us to regulate the entire world. My task, and yours as well, is to control the processes that occur within the borders of our Belarus. Sometimes positive changes can be accelerated, so to speak, manually."
