President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has approved the Commonwealth of Independent States Convention on Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes. The Head of State signed Decree No. 127 on April 1st, as reported to BELTA by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The Convention was signed by the CIS leaders on September 28, 2018, in Dushanbe. It enshrines the directions, principles, and goals of cooperation between the Commonwealth countries in the space domain.
The document is aimed at improving the regulatory framework and enhancing CIS activities in this area. It envisages joint work by the parties both in scientific research and in practical aspects, for example, in solving the problem of space debris disposal, coordinate-time and navigation support, in the field of manned space flights, and in the provision and use of space services.
Interstate projects and programs in the space domain will be financed by interested parties through national budgets and extra-budgetary sources.
