Lukashenko approves concept for joint operational exercise of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia

Following a report presented at the Palace of Independence, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko approved the concept for a joint operational exercise of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia, BELTA correspondent reports.

Following a report presented at the Palace of Independence, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko approved the concept for a joint operational exercise of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia, BELTA correspondent reports. 

As previously reported, the exercise is scheduled to begin in February. It will be conducted on the western and southern borders of Belarus.

"As you know, in this challenging environment, the President of the Russian Federation and I agreed back in December last year to jointly conduct unscheduled specific measures on the western borders of the Union State and on Belarus's southern flank, which is also a border of the Union State. Today, we see that we need to conduct substantial exercises in this western and southern region, the 'Belarusian balcony'," said Alexander Lukashenko while hearing the report.

The President emphasized that the exercises should not be exclusively Belarusian: "These should be normal exercises to work through a specific concept in confronting these forces: from the West (the Baltics and Poland) and from the South (Ukraine)."
