The Head of State worked in his small homeland - in the agro-town of Alexandria, Shklovsky District. The team at the subbotnik, led by Alexander Lukashenko, was engaged in landscaping and greening the area around the site where the popular festival "Alexandria Gathers Friends", loved by guests from different countries, is held annually on Kupala Night.
The choice of this place on the banks of the Dnieper is particularly symbolic in the Year of National Unity, as it has always been a place of friendship and cooperation between representatives of different nationalities and cultures.
Here, on the "from the Varangians to the Greeks" trade route, fairs and folk festivals were held, and traditions of good neighbourliness were formed, which are sometimes acutely lacking in relations between countries today. The continuation of this glorious history is the festival - near the bridge that connects not only the two settlements dear to Alexander Lukashenko's heart - Alexandria and Kopys, but also the Mogilev and Vitebsk regions.
Now this picturesque corner of Belarus will be adorned with planted oaks, rowan trees, and shrubs. In the future, they will become a vivid reminder not only of the good tradition of holding subbotniks, but also of the diligence and peace-loving policy of the Belarusian people, a symbol of care for the ecology and beauty of their native land.
Upon arrival at the subbotnik site, Alexander Lukashenko received safety instructions and signed the relevant logbook.
He recalled that in this place, where the modern bridge now stands, there was a crossing of the Dnieper River during his childhood. On the opposite bank of the river is the urban-type settlement of Kopys. It was on its example, at the time, on the instructions of the Head of State, that the modernization of similar settlements throughout the country began. Without excesses, in a thrifty manner. "Precisely based on the money that is available today. This is where the modernization of agriculture and urban settlements began," the President said.
Alexander Lukashenko recalled that the task is to allocate plots of land in similar settlements at a minimum cost for those who wish to build a house for themselves. "This should be the case everywhere. But let's see if it is," the Head of State noted.
The President invariably takes an active part in republican subbotniks and always emphasizes the importance of preserving the tradition of holding such events. As a rule, the Head of State works at landmark construction sites, improving territories, and planting trees.
For example, in recent years, subbotniks with the participation of the President have taken place at the construction of the new building of the State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Chizhovka-Arena cultural and entertainment sports complex, the Lebyazhy water park, new maternity and children's clinics in Minsk, and the Rhythmic Gymnastics Olympic Training Center.
During one of the republican subbotniks, Alexander Lukashenko also took part in the reconstruction of the Dynamo Stadium in Minsk.
Among the sites where the brigade led by the President worked during subbotniks over the past decade is the State Flag Square of the Republic of Belarus.
Alexander Lukashenko also planted trees on the territory of the historical and cultural complex "Stalin Line" and the Pripyatsky National Park, and improved Trofimova Krinitsa in his small homeland near the agro-town of Alexandria.
