Lukashenko held a meeting on territorial defense in Shklov

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting on territorial defence issues in Shklov today, reports BELTA correspondent.

The Head of State arrived at the Shklov District Executive Committee, where he was met by the Minister of Defence of Belarus Viktor Khrenin, State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Wolfovich, as well as representatives of local authorities. During a brief conversation before the event, the Head of State approved the appointment of Andrei Kamko, Deputy Chairman of the Gorki District Executive Committee, as the head of the Shklov District. As it turned out, in his previous position, he oversaw territorial defence issues in his region.

"Everyone present here understands how critical the issue we will discuss today is – the issue of ensuring national security," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized. "Today, using the example of the Mogilev region and the Shklov district, we will try to make sure how prepared local leaders are."

According to the President, the level of preparedness of local leaders is of particular importance in matters of territorial defence. "The overall success in organizing territorial defence depends on how fully they understand the situation with the training of their subordinates, know the tasks and methods of organizing their execution," said the Head of State. "The General Staff, the army and country leadership will help you, and we will send military personnel for liaison and assistance in managing the organization of territorial troops' work. But it will be one or two people. Most likely, perhaps, even a controller. We ourselves, at the local level – the chairmen of district and regional executive committees – must learn to fight."
