President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko notes the existence of unresolved issues in the sphere of energy and energy resource prices.
He stated this today during a working meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council members, which was held via video conference, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"I would like to draw attention to the fact that we entered the crisis with an unresolved fundamental issue for the sustainable operation of the economy. This is energy, resource prices, and settlements for them. Of course, we did not expect such a situation to develop. But nevertheless, the fact is evident. Such inflexibility negatively affects the entire value-added chain. And therefore, it undermines the sustainability of the union's functioning," the Head of State stated.
He noted that until the parties move to common energy markets within the EAEU, they need to agree on how to proceed in the current situation. "First and foremost, this concerns prices and settlements for natural gas. It is obvious that with such a sharp change in the economic conjuncture, the price should be more adaptive, and the settlement mechanism should be affordable for consumers," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
In this regard, he addressed the President of Russia Vladimir Putin so that this issue could be promptly considered.
