"People are actively criticising the organisation of waste management. This is no longer a minor issue for many. The problem of separate waste collection, recycling, and further use of these recycled goods is being handled deplorably," stressed Alexander Lukashenko.
According to him, more than 4 million tonnes of solid municipal waste are generated in the country annually. At the same time, only 790 thousand tonnes of secondary material resources were procured in 2021.
"Listen, this is a Klondike. For example, to put it simply and understandably. We have a huge glass industry (for windows, cars, televisions, bottles, and so on). This should not end up in a landfill. All this glass, cullet, and other materials must be recycled to produce normal glass from this secondary waste, as we often call it. This is how everyone in Western Europe works. Take Switzerland, for instance: nearly 90% of this waste is recycled there. It is a cheap resource, cheap raw material for further use. We are handling all this carelessly," Alexander Lukashenko pointed out.
