President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has concluded his visit to Russia, BELTA reports. The events of the Belarusian leader's official visit to the Russian Federation took place on March 13-14. These included official negotiations with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, a speech by the head of state at the Federation Council – the upper chamber of the Russian parliament – and a meeting with its speaker Valentina Matviyenko.
The head of state also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin had extensive informal communication and continued this interaction after the official events concluded.
As previously reported by BELTA, citing the Kremlin's press service, an informal trilateral meeting also took place. The heads of Belarus and Russia were joined by the head of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, who later had scheduled bilateral official negotiations with the Russian leader.
The heads of state jointly contacted President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev by telephone. "A warm, friendly conversation took place, during which the leaders discussed a range of pressing issues for the further development of interstate relations," the statement reads. "The leaders of the countries agreed to meet on May 9 in Moscow during the celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War."
