Modern online dating may seem appealing: attractive photos, warm conversations, promises of meetings, and shared views. However, behind this facade, scammers are increasingly hiding, turning romance into a trap.
It begins with ordinary flirting and a swift move to private messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp). The interlocutor shows attention and maintains engagement. Next, you might be asked to send intimate photos. All of this is recorded by the perpetrators. As soon as they possess compromising material, the tone of communication changes abruptly.This is followed by blackmail: either publication or money.
How to stay safe?
— Do not move the conversation to private messengers immediately;
— Do not send intimate photos or videos;
— At the slightest suspicion, cease communication;
— If you are already being blackmailed, save the correspondence and contact the police.
Online romance can be genuine, but scammers are constantly looking for someone ready to believe the first flattering phrase.
