The Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs informs about the special program "POPPY" being conducted on the territory of the Republic of Belarus from June 1 to September 15, 2017. The main goal of this program is to prevent the spread of narcotic raw materials of plant origin (poppy, hemp, etc.), block access to wild hemp overgrowths and destroy them, identify and destroy illegal sowings of narcotic-containing plants, and take measures against offenders as provided for by law. Sowing or cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances is illegal.
In the event that poppy, hemp, or other narcotic-containing plants are grown on a household plot, citizens may be brought to administrative responsibility for this offense under Article 16.1 (Sowing or cultivation of plants or fungi prohibited for cultivation, containing narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, with an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of up to 20 base units.
