The competition for masters of pancake making will take place on Freedom Square (starting at 12:00), and applications for participation in the culinary duel are accepted until February 23 (there are no age restrictions for participants).
According to the competition rules, culinary experts must present at least three pancake recipes. Organisers do not limit the masters' imagination: pancakes can be of different shapes and with various fillings; unusual presentation using cutlery is encouraged during serving, and a vibrant presentation will also be required.
Printed recipes of the flour products exhibited for evaluation and tasting will be prepared for guests. The pancakes will be judged and the competition results will be summarised by a competent jury, which will include specialists from public catering enterprises. Among the criteria are taste, originality of the recipe, appearance, beauty and complexity of presentation, etc. Winners will be determined in several nominations: "Most Delicious Filling", "Tallest Stack of Pancakes", "Most Original Pancake", "Children's Pancake", "People's Choice Award".
As noted by the festival organisers, the competition is held to revive Belarusian folk traditions, popularise unique local festivals, traditions of national cuisine and folk recipes for making pancakes, identify amateur culinary experts, create conditions for organising healthy and fun leisure activities, and improve the general culture of the population.
Thematic areas will also operate on Freedom Square, featuring sales of folk art products, performances by amateur groups, games, master classes, etc.
