A sociological study titled "Family Formation, Stability of Family Relations and Fertility in the Changing Socio-Economic Conditions of Belarusians' Lives" will commence in Belarus in January 2017, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus.
In anticipation of the first wave of the sociological study, an international conference "Methodology and Prospects for the Use of Data from the Generations and Gender Survey" will be held on 28 November in Minsk. Representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Belarusian State University, mass media, and foreign experts and specialists in this field will participate.
The large-scale study on the formation of Belarusian families, the stability of family relations, and fertility will involve 10,000 respondents aged between 18 and 69. It is funded by UNFPA, UNICEF, and the Government of the Russian Federation under the project "Support for the Implementation of the National Programme for Demographic Security of the Republic of Belarus". The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection acts as the national coordinator of the project.
The survey will be conducted by the Centre for Sociological and Political Studies of Belarusian State University (CSPS BSU). Preparations for this large-scale work are being carried out by CSPS BSU in close cooperation with experts from the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute. The survey data will allow for the analysis of family formation and fertility processes to identify the impact of social policy measures and other contextual factors on reproductive behaviour and family relations.
The conceptual framework of the sociological study is based on the international Generations and Gender Programme and Policy Acceptability Assessment Tools (GGP/PA). The Population Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is the initiator and coordinator of this programme.
