The EU-UN initiative "Together Against Childhood Injuries" was launched in 2016. It was carried out by medical professionals together with partners from the Belarusian Red Cross Society. Initially, training seminars were held for adults: teachers, facility management staff, and everyone who is with a child during study hours. Then, several sessions were held with children. This academic year, specialists decided to focus on pupils, especially those in senior grades.
"Injuries happen unexpectedly, even to a prepared person, so it is important to know how to behave in such a situation and what to do. Training in basic first aid skills should start from the school desk," the centre noted.
On a voluntary basis, doctors intend to continue organising seminars to train schoolchildren in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assistance with fractures, cuts, and other common injuries. Information booklets have been developed, and an interactive mannequin will be used during the classes. It is connected to a network, and the dummy informs the pupil if they are doing something wrong, for example, pressing too hard on the chest.
"We will not be able to reach everyone, but we hope to engage some, and they will interest other children," the Regional Children's Clinical Centre noted.
Such classes have already generated keen interest among students' parents, with many asking where they could sign up for a seminar. Medical professionals do not rule out the possibility of similar classes for adults in the future.
