The most sought-after types of medical assistance for foreign visitors include cardio-, neuro- and intravascular surgery, endoscopic operations, joint replacement, cancer treatment, dentistry, ophthalmology, reproductive medicine, diagnostic examinations, preventive treatment, and rehabilitation after illnesses.
Belarus is among the top 50 countries globally for pregnancy management and childbirth organisation by qualified medical personnel. In terms of organ transplants per 1 million population, Belarus leads in the post-Soviet space and surpasses many European countries. The country performs 50 transplants per 1 million population (compared to the European average of 55.9, Russia - 10.1, Ukraine - 3.2). The availability of open-heart surgery in the republic is 360 per 1 million population. The number of coronary artery bypass grafting operations reached 1813 in 2016.
Last year, over 150,000 foreign citizens received medical services in organisations of the Ministry of Health system. In January-March of the current year, over 32,000 foreigners were treated.
In 2016, medical services were exported through all sales channels for $35.2 million (in 2015 - for $33.5 million). The growth rate of medical service exports in January-March 2017 was 106% ($8.4 million), with exports to Lithuania, Georgia, and Poland more than doubling.
