Statistics indicate that the predominant cause of fatalities from fires in residential buildings is the lack of knowledge or disregard of safety measures by citizens, the so-called human factor – careless, negligent actions of citizens.

For reference: In 9 months of 2023, 695 fires occurred in the region, resulting in 64 deaths and 62 injuries, including 6 children.

To prevent such incidents, as well as to raise the level of safety culture among the population in the Lepel region, the republican fire prevention campaign "For Safety Together!" is being held. The second stage of the campaign will begin on October 16 and will last until November 1.

The name of the campaign speaks for itself: rescuers will be joined by representatives of the internal affairs bodies, healthcare, social services, mass media, housing and communal services, and the energy service.

During the campaign, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will visit homes, conduct individual instructional and explanatory work, and assess the safety of living conditions for families with children in socially dangerous situations; single elderly citizens and disabled persons living alone, veterans of the Great Patriotic War; citizens using their homes for drinking alcohol, as well as gathering persons leading an antisocial lifestyle; elderly citizens living with persons exhibiting antisocial behaviour.

Work collectives will not be overlooked by the prevention team; explanatory talks will be held with them on pressing issues: fire prevention and fatalities from fires, compliance with fire safety rules during the operation of stove heating and electrical equipment, compliance with gas usage rules in everyday life, and the inadmissibility of leaving children unattended. To prevent "grass" fires, rescuers will conduct raids on садоводческие товарищества (gardening associations) and private sectors to once again explain to citizens how to safely tidy up their adjacent territories and identify points on the city map that could become fire sites.

We invite all residents of the Lepel region to join the campaign. Pay close attention to the serviceability of heating equipment and electrical

wiring, check the operability of autonomous fire detectors, and in their absence – install them in each living room. Do not forget about elderly relatives and acquaintances, provide them with assistance in bringing their homes into fire-safe condition.

Every resident of the district can contact the district department for emergency situations for a housing inspection for compliance with fire safety rules and receive recommendations from rescuers.
