Events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk begin today in the oldest city of Belarus, according to BELTA.
The entire Christian world celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the Saint on June 5. Some events took place in Polotsk on the eve, in particular, a scientific seminar was held at Polotsk State University. The main celebrations start today early in the morning with festive divine services in the churches of Polotsk and the district, and processions to the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Monastery. The general procession is expected to bring together over a thousand believers and pilgrims, including those from other countries. At the site near the monument to Euphrosyne of Polotsk, an educational project "Community of Creative Ideas 'We Preserve the Name of Saint Euphrosyne Through the Centuries'" will be launched – information and creative hours, literary and other events will be held at schools and other educational institutions. In the evening, at the Palace of Culture of JSC "Polotsk-Steкловолокно", another educational project "Rhapsodies of Art 'Euphrosyne - Daughter of the Polotsk Land'" will be implemented, and musical meetings are planned in St. Sophia Cathedral.
The National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve has prepared its programme: a presentation of the saint's act seal (in the Museum of Belarusian Printing) and a permanent exhibition "Wall Paintings of the 12th-19th Centuries of the Transfiguration Church" (in the Art Gallery).
A separate event will be the international literary festival "Centre of Europe-2017", which will take place from June 3-5 and will bring together professionals and lovers of literary art from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Austria. Creative teams of writers will meet with students in Polotsk, and some of the guests will hold personal creative evenings and masterclasses on versification. The programme also includes poetry and short prose competitions, a literary and stage competition, book fairs and presentations, a literary evening at the site of the "Centre of Europe" memorial sign, a conference "Contemporary Youth Literature - Initial or Countdown", and much more.
