The international scientific and practical conference "Dementia and Ageing: Social Services Meet the Challenges of the Times" will be held today in Vitebsk, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Regional Executive Committee.

The international scientific and practical conference "Dementia and Ageing: Social Services Meet the Challenges of the Times" will be held today in Vitebsk, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Regional Executive Committee.

The event, which will take place at the Vitebsk Residential Care Home for the Elderly and Disabled, will be attended by representatives of social protection services, scientists, and medical professionals from Belarus (Minsk, Vitebsk, Grodno), Russia (Moscow), and China. The experience of the Vitebsk region in addressing intellectual disability issues will be discussed, and the practice of a comprehensive approach to dementia prevention in social service institutions will be analysed. The focus will be on creating an age-friendly urban environment, early detection of cognitive disorders, and rehabilitation of individuals with reduced mental capacity. A presentation of traditional Chinese health practices, a master class on "Qigong Breathing Exercises," and a master class on "Integrated Body and Brain Gymnastics – A New Approach to Dementia Prevention" are planned.

In addition, an exhibition-presentation of equipment used in social service institutions for dementia prevention will be organised, and a presentation of new methods used when working with people with intellectual disabilities will take place.
