On March 14, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The international scientific and practical conference "History and Archaeology of Polotsk and the Polotsk Land" will be held from November 1 to 3 in Polotsk and will be dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the first mention of Polotsk in the chronicles, reported to BELTA correspondent the acting director of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum, Tamara Dzhumantaeva.
The sixth conference, which has been held every five years since 1987, will be held for the first time with the support of UNESCO. The international organization has included the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk in the calendar of memorable dates for 2012-2013 and will take part in holding not only the conference but also a thematic exhibition at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in October 2012.
It is expected that scientists from Russia, Ukraine, and Sweden will come to the scientific forum. Within the framework of the conference, plenary and sectional meetings, lectures by leading foreign and domestic museologists, and presentations will be held. Several thematic blocks are proposed for discussion: historical, archaeological, museological, historical informatics.
According to Tamara Dzhumantaeva, many statements about new discoveries will be made at the conference. All reports will be published in the sixth collection "History and Archaeology of Polotsk and the Polotsk Land". This publication always arouses great interest among both domestic and foreign historians. For example, the State Public Historical Library of Russia, along with the electronic version of the publication, replenishes its collections with the traditional printed collection. An order for the new collection has already been received. -0-
