Japanese and European experts will familiarize themselves with the radiation incident response point at the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, the head of the press service of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, Denis Glebko, informed a BELTA correspondent. A Japanese delegation and representatives of the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the State Border Committee of Belarus will visit the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment on 29-30 August in connection with the completion of the Belarusian-Japanese RADBEL project. Here, they will familiarize themselves with the regional radiation incident response point, equipped with hardware under the RADBEL project. The visit program also includes a meeting of the experts with the leadership of Polotsk. The international technical assistance project "Modernisation of the system for countering illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials at the state border of Belarus" (RADBEL) was signed on 2 July 2010 between the Technical Secretariat of the Japanese Committee for Cooperation on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the State Border Committee. Its budget was $1 million. The project envisaged the creation of mobile laboratories for operational and operational-strategic response to facts of illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials at the border.
