On November 25, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The International Modern Choreography Competition in Vitebsk IFMC-2012 has demonstrated a high level. This point of view was expressed today to journalists by People's Artist of Russia, world-renowned dancer, choreographer, director, and chairman of the IFMC-2012 jury, Vladimir Vasiliev, reports BELTA correspondent. "The contestants' class varies, some performances were at the amateur level, but overall the impression is most favourable: the general level of the competition is high. Some performances made me feel anxious and even shed a tear. It is these that have become among the winners and prize-winners," said the maestro. Despite the fact that Vladimir Vasiliev does not consider himself a great specialist in the field of modern dance, he is confident that the language of modern choreography is peculiar, unique, and should not be the language of classical dance. "When modernity is spoken in the language of classical dance, falsehood always arises," he is convinced. At the same time, according to Vladimir Vasiliev, modern dance lacks technique, directing mastery, lacks dramaturgy to stage a full-fledged ballet performance, and good music. "Dancers need to practice at the barre, they need to learn and know characteristic dances. The music is depressing – just noise. Modern life is indeed increasingly made up of noise, but is it impossible to stage a ballet about modernity to good music?" the artist wondered. The IFMC-2012 international competition featured choreographic works by ensembles from Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Estonia, Japan, as well as international projects.
